Giving on Christmas

Giselle Marquez, Olytimes writer

Have you ever made someone’s Christmas special by giving them something? Christmas can mean a lot of different things to different people. We must be reminded, though, that Christmas is about giving. Sure, receiving gifts from our loved ones makes us feel good about ourselves, but we can also give gifts to make people feel good about themselves. Giving someone a kind compliment should be enough to put a smile on their face.

Christmas presents are a Christian tradition that is done all around the world. According to Gifts unwrapped: The history of Christmas presents – Gifts International, “To Christians, the gifts given at Christmas are symbolic of the tributes made to the baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men after his birth during the story of the Nativity.” Christians give presents and cards throughout the Christmas season. This reminds them of Jesus’ first gift as he began his life on this earth.

A quote from 5 Ways To Show Your Giving Spirit this Christmas, “Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting”. This demonstrates that people should focus on giving rather than getting. Donating is one way to contribute on Christmas. Many homeless people, as well as the poor, are unable to purchase Christmas gifts. People will be able to sense the spirit more easily as a result of giving.
